There are many scholarships available to help deaf and hard of hearing students pay for college. These scholarships can help you cover the cost of tuition, books, and other expenses.
The Sertoma Scholarship for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides a valuable opportunity for students who are deaf or hard of hearing and are pursuing higher education in the field of communication sciences and disorders.

In 2023, Sertoma offered a $1,000 scholarship that recipients can utilize for books, supplies, and tuition. The funds can be applied to any semester, including summer semesters.

Notification to Recipients: Scholarship recipients will receive notification by June 30th of each year. Please note that we only notify selected recipients, and we are unable to provide a list of recipients to those who have not been awarded a scholarship.
Scholarships are an essential means of supporting and empowering individuals in their pursuit of higher education. At IADES (International Association of Deaf Education and Services), they strongly encourage deaf women to aspire to higher education and strive for excellence in their academic endeavors. Since 1989, the IADES Endowment Fund (IEF) has played a significant role in granting annual fellowship awards to deaf women pursuing their Ph.D. or a terminal degree.
One prestigious fellowship award offered by IEF is the Dr. Betty G. Miller Fellowship Award. This annual award pays tribute to Dr. Betty G. Miller, a distinguished member of the Delta Epsilon Sorority and the first woman graduate of Gallaudet University to achieve her Ph.D. The Dr. Betty G. Miller Fellowship Award recognizes deserving alumnae of the Delta Epsilon Sorority who meet the application requirements.
Additionally, the IADES Fellowship Award is another significant recognition given to deserving deaf women who are not members of the Delta Epsilon Sorority. This award is an opportunity for non-DE members to receive support and recognition for their academic achievements.
The IEF Committee also oversees the Ausma Smits Leadership Award and various recognition awards in honor of our four founders. These awards celebrate outstanding leadership and achievements in different categories, reflecting the values and contributions of our esteemed founders.
However, it’s important to note that the IADES Endowment Fund and the IADES Fellowship Award for 2023 have been put on hold until further notice. They understand the anticipation and enthusiasm surrounding these awards, and they are working diligently to evaluate and assess the circumstances. They look to announce fellowship awards for the upcoming year in the Spring of 2024.

The DE & PKZ Sororities Woman Scholarship Fund is a remarkable opportunity established by the alumni organizations of the DE & PKZ sororities. This scholarship aims to empower and provide support to single mothers who are pursuing full-time studies at Gallaudet University.
We understand the unique challenges faced by single mothers, and we believe in their resilience and determination to achieve their educational goals.
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet specific criteria. This includes having full custody of their children while being enrolled as full-time students at Gallaudet University. As part of the application process, applicants are required to submit a rental agreement or lease to verify their housing arrangements.
Additionally, a letter of recommendation from a non-family member and an essay, which can be written or signed, are also necessary components of the application.

One of the primary requirements for this scholarship is significant hearing loss in one or both ears. This ensures that the scholarship is awarded to individuals who face unique challenges in their academic journey due to hearing loss. Additionally, being a resident of Illinois is a key eligibility criterion, with no citizenship requirement, making this scholarship accessible to a wide range of individuals in the state.

Through the GKF Scholarship, eligible students at prestigious institutions such as the College of Charleston, Charleston Southern University, Trident Technical College, The Citadel, the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and Clemson University Restoration Institute can receive financial assistance to support their educational journey.
One of the remarkable aspects of the GKF Scholarship is its potential for renewal. Recipients have the opportunity to renew their scholarship for up to four years, ensuring sustained support throughout their academic endeavors.
While a full application is required in the first year, subsequent years only require the submission of a current transcript by the application deadline. It’s important to note that the scholarship is not automatically renewed each year, and the submission of a transcript is necessary for the board’s review.
