Canadian Grants

Going to college in Canada
There are an assortment of grants available in Canada to those who seek a post-secondary education. The Canadian government has a selection of grants to help college-seeking individuals meet their educational goals.

According to the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, Canadian universities provide higher learning to more than one and a half million students each year. They range in character and culture and can be found all across Canada. These higher education institutions are responsible for one-third of Canada’s research and development programs.

"To stay on top of everything, write a list of the most important things that need to be completed by the due date. And accomplish that by that date. Stay to it. Your friends will appreciate your dedication."

Canadian institutions also have intricate programs that delve into the heart of the fields of study they offer. For example, in the arts area of study students head to Hollywood for an in-depth look at operations, using simulations to study the theory and practice of nursing, and learning from top corporate executives to learn how to lead.

And here are grants to help you further your academic career:

Canada Education Savings Grant

The Canada Education Savings Grant is more of a governmental assistance program that offers funds to be placed in accounts that are purposed for your child’s education. We added this and the Canada Learning Bond to the list because we believe it is very important to inform parents to start saving early for their child’s education. The grant has two parts: the Basic Canada Education Savings Grant and the Additional Canada Education Savings Grant. You must have a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) in place for your child.

The Basic Canada Education Savings Grant awards 20 percent of every dollar of the first $2,500 you save in your child’s Registered Education Savings Plan. The Additional Canada Education Savings Grant is given to those whose net income meets the requirement for them to receive an additional 10 or 20 percent on every dollar of the first $500 they save in their child’s RESP.

Your child must be a Canadian resident and be named in an RESP. They may receive grant amounts until the end of the calendar year of their 17th birthday.
